Wishing all of our wonderful Mothers a very special day:)
Wishing all of our “Mothers” a very Happy Mother’s Day!
“Hope” is the thing with feathers-
That perches in the soul-
And sings the tune without the words-
And never stops- at all-
~An excerpt from the poem “Hope” is the thing with feathers~ Emily Dickinson
This passage from the poem written by Emily Dickinson is a favorite of mine. I feel it is especially relevant on this special weekend when we honor all of our wonderful and dedicated mothers.
This poem reminds me of the tireless hope, that we, as Mothers, and as parents feel for our children’s future dreams and aspirations. Becoming a Mother or even “like a Mother” to a child, changes the way we think, act and feel. Suddenly, there is much more appreciation for the little things, as well as much more admiration for our own Mother’s and the time and effort it took for them…

“I’m just a Mother”….I answered…when asked what my occupation was…
“Mothers are the most important people” …he replied…without hesitation….
…it took me a moment….
We learn so much from our Mothers….so much more than we can ever realize…most of who we are …we owe to our Mothers, or to those who have been “Like a Mother” to us.
Being a Mother…I now know how much time and effort we put into our family. Our ultimate goal is to have happy, healthy children…but that doesn’t just happen. It takes hours and hours of thought, work, encouragement and energy…..I just don’t think that our Mothers ever told us it was hard work! They made it look so easy….
My Mother left us too soon….too soon for me to realize …how hard it is to be a Mother….and how much credit a Mother deserves….but I am lucky enough to have a wonderful Mother-in-law and Grandmother-in-Law…who are here to remind me, that we will one day, miss these days…and be looking for that “Merry-go-round” of life.
As a Mother the list of credentials can include , Administrative Assistant, Baker, Banker, Beautician, Bookkeeper, Dietician, Psychologist, Nurse, House Manager, Cruise Director, Chauffeur, Housekeeper, Short Order Cook, Personal Shopper, Family Historian, Archivist, Secretary, Referee, Security Guard, Event Planner, Gardener, Quality Inspector…just to name a few…and all these things learned on the job, of course.
Luckily the list of benefits include …unconditional love and affection…innocent encouragement when we need it most…the most gratifying and profoundly rewarding profession you will ever take on…complete with lots of hugs and laughs and adorable handmade sentiments. One of my boys made me a card with the following words. “My love for you is like two million hearts, bunnies and candy. You are the best mom. I love you!”
Tell me where else, will we ever feel, that magnitude of love.
All of these benefits probably encompass the one reason…why my Mother never said it was hard…
Anything worth anything…is hard.
So now…when asked my occupation…I proudly reply…
I am a Mother ~
The following is a thought I read in a little hallmark book~
Don’t forget to lift your eyes away from the keyboard now and then to see how blue the sky is.
Don’t forget to put away the cell and spend some time with paintbrush, pen or guitar.
Don’t forget to seek the blessing of silence amid the rush and noise of life.
And remember always that the secret of success is how happily you climb…not how high.
Wishing all of my fellow Mothers…and those who are “Like a Mother”….a beautiful day celebrating you and the wonderful honor of Motherhood~
Now that the warmer weather is on the way…let’s stick to the keep it simple rule…quick, easy and healthy dinners…you will eat the leftovers!
Happy Spring Everyone!
Impress the family this holiday with a beautiful spring Leg of Lamb. You will not believe how simple it is to roast up this wonderful and traditional meal. Prepare the meat the night before, by studding it with garlic and marinating in buttermilk. The next day you can prepare the sides as the lamb roasts in your oven. Pop it in the oven for about two hours, no fuss required. The family will love it!

Easter is early this year! Next week to be exact:)
Add this delicious ham to the menu…it will be outstanding!
For the past several years, a smoked ham has been my go-to dish for Easter Sunday. The fact that it is fully cooked and just needs to be heated through has had a lot to do with it…but also it really is delicious when topped with a sweet glaze and served with yummy side dishes.

May your joys be as deep as the oceans
Your troubles as light as its foam
And may you find sweet peace of mind
“The love we give away is the only love we keep” Elbert Hubbard ~
It’s no secret that I love to set the table. I enjoy to prepare a meal using quality tools and dishes and our family likes the special feel of a dinner that is served off of beautiful dinnerware.
It’s also no secret that I love vibrance and color!

This may sound ridiculous, but The Butcher had put a ban on my efforts of perfecting pork chops. Yep, I know, crazy right? Well, he was nice about it…but he kindly asked that I stop cooking pork chops…because it just wasn’t working. So, for a few years I bypassed the pork section of the meat case.
